    YARD SALES
This is something I've done for year before every thinking of recessions. I had four kids and they were Y&S clothed. My home is Y&S. I have gotten bargins you wouldn't believe. People can't believe when they ask where I got something and I tell them Y&S. You get hooked on the Y&S but its very frugal means of getting things you would or might pass up at a store thinging it's to much money. Like the old saying "Someone elses trash is anothers treasure" I have boughten a beautiful oak table with 6 chairs $30.00 and huge braided rug $10.00 like new. The people were moving and wanted to get rid of them. Clothes never have the tags off for just a few bucks where you would pay much more at the store. This is a great way to get school clothes as it will be starting up before long. I can't believe the people who are at the yard sale lately looking and saying they can't afford the store prices. So for those who haven't went to the Y&S get out and check them out.. Remember the early bird gets the worm. Don't wait until a couple hours after they start or you will miss the bargains. Have fun and save money........

I am in the process of getting ready for a big garage sale. I am getting rid of anything that I haven't used for a while or that is just in the way. I have a wicker sofa, and a hide a bed sofa for sale. I just don't have the room for them. They are priced low enough that someone in financial distress could afford. I also am waiting a longer time befote I have my haircut.

How about a bake sale? Everyone loves baked goods. Or homemade Easter candy. If its around Easter time, some simple Easter crafts are always nice. Jewelry is another big seller at craft shows.

Good Morning, I am new too! Do any of you belong to a crafters group at your church? And do you have a craft show around the holidays? My question to you is what would you like to see and what would you buy? I am trying to make this successful because the money we raise helps support our church. We live in AZ and once the snowbirds leave, our donations leave to, we still have bills to pay. We have other groups that raise money for missions. Would it be better to have items that bring in more money or items that would be "feel good items" that aren't that expensive and I know we always have baked goods. We always try & use items that have donated to us by church members so we don't spend much money. And by the way, you aren't the only ones having hard times, we could lose everything too, in a matter of time. Our health stinks too. I still have hope for the U.S. God is still on our side & I think that we will be okay. thanks for your input. " punkie pooch"

I have always cooked this way Apple!!! I freeze a lot after too!! I will make a batch of chilli and freeze into 1 or 2 serving containers, I freeze spagetti, soups rice dishes, just about everything!! We waist nothing anymore!!!

I bought a case of pie crusts at Costco and I make pot pies and quiche too!! If I have left over veggies I make veggie quiche and add meat if I have some!! If we don't eat it all I freeze that too!!

I also have family for dinner too and they do the same in return and it usually comes when you don't expect!! I am doing ribs this weekend, with spinch salad and garlic bread the ribs where on dirt cheap!! I cook them for 4 hours!!Yummy!!!

I saw something on TV the other day about when you go shopping take along the competitors flyers and shop in a store where they will meet or beat their competors prices!! This will save you money and gas as you wont be driving to all the stores to shop for all the bargains!!!
Clip your coupons too!! But only the ones you will use, I clip others and drop them in the mail boxes of people I know can use the ones I don't, such as pull up training paints, we don't have little ones, but the guy who built our house does so I drop them in thier box on my way by, of course I talked to Heather about it first!!LOL They had a little girl when they were building our house!!
I clip back pain pills for my SIL. My fav coupons lately are the free offers we have been getting!!LOL it's like a Christmas present!!LOL

I shop at second hand shops too!! We have a large Salvation Army store in a town near me and I picked up a pair of velour black pants the other day for $5, they where like new!! We also have a place in another town that is open 3 times a week and you take in a green garbage back and you can fill it for $2, I have only been in there a couple times, I just haven't had time for a few months!! I forget about it too and remember the day it isn't open!!LOL

The times seem to be getting even worse of late and it will be not good for a couple years I fear!! But sharing here will help as long as we can still afford to stay plugged in!! Ugh!!

Hi goodtaste.. There are also some good tips on the cheap chics board. Check that out too. I have been really watching the specials and planning meals around that. Also I make meals that are inexpensive and last for 2 meals. Like a big pot of homemade soup, crusty bread and a salad. Try making a big meatloaf for one day and have meatloaf sandwiches the next day with a different veggie, whatever. Also there is nothing wrong with making a big batch of pancakes or bacon and eggs for dinner. Have spaghetti one day and make meatball hoagies with the extra meatballs you made the next day. With the price of groceries right now, it is a good idea to spread out your meals. If you make a meal that lasts for 2 days, then you don't have to cook as often.

Hi, I just joined! I sure would like to get tips from you guys. The only thing I can think of to share is the advice to try to recycle when it comes to some of your materials (for example, use No. 6 plastic containers to make shrinky dinks rather than using more expensive sheets, the plastic is just as nice and thick and the items can be just as pretty and durable. If you are a crafter, this will save you some money.)
