Group Created by PatriciaL

A group to share your ATC's of all kinds, beginner to advanced. Share you ideas, teniques and suppliers!!

What is an ATC you ask????

The best rules or guildlines I could fine for you!!

Today the only rule for these cards is their 2.5 by 3.5 inch size (64 x 89 mm), same as baseball cards and collectible card games.

Artist Trading Cards are typically made on a base of card stock. However, ATCs have been created on metal, stiffened fabric, plastic, clay, glass, balsa wood, leather, embroidery canvas, acetate, heavy watercolor paper, and many other materials. The art on the cards can be done in any media: textile arts, pencil, watercolor, acrylic, oil, collage, scratch board, mixed media, assemblage, digital art, calligraphy, beadwork, rubber stamps, carved soft block stamps, pen and ink, colored pencil, airbrush, pastels, and many others - anything artists use.

The only standard requirement for an ATC is that its height and width measurements be 2.5" x 3.5" (64 x 89 mm), either vertical (portrait) or horizontal (landscape) orientation. The sky is the limit for every other aspect of the art.

The size, 2.5" x 3.5", is exactly one-quarter of 5" x 7" (127 x 178 mm) - a common size for photography and illustration. This means artists focusing on 5" x 7" artwork can easily scale-down their works to exactly 1/4 size (using photo-manipulation software) to create ATCs. Else the basis of printed ATCs can later be modified with other methods - such painting or inking-over the base image.

There is no standard thickness for ATCs but people customarily make them thin enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets.

Whilst some people are sticklers for archival qualities, art does not necessarily have to be "forever" so many people use whatever materials fit their artistic needs, irrespective of those materials' longevity.

Hope this helps you discover the world of ATC making!!!

Ahhhhhh...yes, room for all that stuff you don't need..yet..but just really think you might & then you'll be mad at yourself cos you didn't get it...lol...here in the apt., there sure isn't much room for what I have let alone what I don't really need...lol...I haven't been in a $1 store for almost a year now. I saw an ad so I think there is one near here but we don't pass it when we go out. However, if I continue to get coupons from Michaels, I could still be in that same situation...lol

Patricia...you may not Need anything, but, there is always something you Might Need when you have a coupon...lol...I do the same tho. Sometimes I don't get there so just replace the coupon with the new one, just in case. I love it that I get them in my email too. And, since I have more then one email, I get two :)

Randi...good that Chad isn't around...lol...some things are left better done quietly...lol...Cross stitching is a good idea for the card too.

Randi...I can see Chads face now when you get one of his cards out...lol...my son would have had heart failure!! I know I don't need to be in a hurry but thats how I am. However, it doesn't always get me there any faster. ~sigh~

Patricia...I was surprised a person that works at Michaels knew what I was talking about. She asked me if I was finding what I needed & I told her what I was looking for. Surprised me. She started helping me look for ideas...lol...She was really nice & seemed to be having fun helping me til she got called away. I have card stock as well as the heavier scrapbookking paper that I'm working with now. I went back a second time yesterday cos I had a 50% off coupon in my email. Can't pass one of those up :)

Debi You wont find much in the stores related to the ATC as, these are mostly done from scratch, but watch at your local $ stores, if they carry anything to do with scrapbooking you can use lots of that sort of thing. Also in the party supply section you may fine some nice napkins and tissues, that give a nice back ground!! You will find you look at all paper products of all kinds with a different prespective!!LOL Stamping is another necnique and painting!! anyway I'm sure you have seen those posts!!

Yep Randi....baseball cards work great for your base of the card, you can glue on card stock or heavier paper on the back and front. You can pick up cards at sceond hand stores and yard sales too!! Cheap cheap!!!!

    Have fun palying with them!!

Lol guys. Chad collects Baseball cards. So i just take one out and cut what I am using to match the size of the card. there's no need to be in such a hurry Debi, were not gonna waste away to nothing.

Debi try AC Moore and if you don't have one go online and see what you can find.

That is very generous & much appreciated Patricia. I was just in Michaels & didn't see anything there. It's even hard to find small enuf things to use on it. I have ideas but have to figure out how to put them on the small cards.
