| It's that time of year... finally, lol! Those lil KamiKaze birds are migrating back North. Here are some things you can do to attract some of this wonderful birds to your yard.
Here's a list of flowers that hummingbirds just love:
Columbine
Impatiens
Bottlebrush
Sage
Honeysuckle
Fucshia
Larkspur
Trumpet Vine
Bee Balm
Delphinium/ Hollyhocks
Butterfly Bush
Rose of Sharon
Hosta
Four-O-Clocks
Lupine
Penstemon
Cypress Vine
Japanese Honeysuckle
Red Morning Glories
Mimosa Trees
Sweet Pea Vine
Keep in mind that Hummers love the color so you need to have lots of red colored flowers.
If you have a hummingbird feeder, you can make a solution of 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. DO NOT add red food coloring, because it has been known to cause cancer in some hummingbirds. I've even been told not to use the commercial hummingbird solutions with red coloring, as the dye may harm them as well. Have 2 or 3 feeders in different places around your yard.
Sit back, and watch the show! |
