FOR ONE STONE:

4) wire coat hangers

1) appox 13" take-out pizza box (1 box may be used to make 2-3 tiles)

brick mortar mix (home centers)

large heavy duty garbage bag

coarse sand paper

small rocks (optional)

utility knife

2" wide packing tape

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Use utility knife to cut lid from box

2. To strengthen sides of box, apply several layers of tape to top edges

& sides of box

3. Cut a sqare from garbage bag about 3" larger on all sides of box

4. To reinforce mortar, place hangars in bottom of box. (do not bend out

of shape. When done properly one hanger hook will be in each corner of

box and the straight sides will form an "X" in the middle when layered)

5. follow manufacturer's instuctions to mix mortar; pour mortar into

box, filling it to about 1/2" from top. Before mortar sets up, use

either finger or a stick to write message in mortar or press small rocks

into it, smoothing mortar around rocks. Allow to set completely.

6. Using edges of plastic to lift tile, remove tile from box. Remove

plastic from bottom of tile. If ncessary, use sandpaper to smooth edges

of tile.

Thanks for sharing that, sounds fun to make and I might even try it as I have lots of mortar left over from the ones I made in May.

All I did was follow the instructions on the bag and pour into an aluminum cake pan that I bought at the dollarstore. I made 6 of them after leaving the mortar sit for half an hour I stated adding items to them. I did each one different, one had blue and white clear flat marbles, one had seashells, one had real round marble, then the other two I layed a rhurbarb leaf on top nad smoothed it . In the morning I just peeled it off then I painted it with green acrylics let it dry and sealed it with my sealer spray. They looked nice I added two to each of my new flowerbeds.

I do this for a living...

You don't really need coat hangers,

as long as you put your stones on a

leavel spot or put sand under them..

You can also wait a week and use paito

paint to paint them or stain them..

You can have fun making them out of all kinds

of house hold stuff.

Here is one of mine.

hugs
