Default Silicone Light Bulbs
Old 10-21-2004, 04:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

Does anyone know how to make the silicone light bulbs that are so popular now? I tried to use my husband's mechanic's silicone, but that was a disaster. The lights and bulbs sell for $6 around here. There's got to be a way to make them cheaper.

Yep.....get a tube or two of the clear silicone....squeeze it in a container you don't mind throwing away like a cool whip or margaine tub.....wrap some kind of wire...florist or whatever you have, around the metal part of the bulb....dip it in your silicone....play with it til you get the desired look. Hang it somewhere to dry. Don't remember how long it takes to dry, I think it depends on how much silicone you use. Make sure though it's completely dry before trying one.

Hope this helps.

I just stumbled on Crafter's Community while searching for money saving crafting ideas. I was hunting for info on how to make the silicone light bulbs. I found your post and was delighted with the info. I tried your info using a tube of 100% silicone caulk. I couldn't get it to work. Please tell me what type of silicone you use and where can I buy it. I really would appreciate your help. Thanks so much..
