I will have to check into the WalMart craft and fabric dept. here and see what is going on. I did notice we had more scrapbooking stuff also.

I have also noticed this in the 3 Wal-marts we have around us (each are at least half an hour away in different directions) I was told they were getting rid of the craft department, but so far it's down to very little. Hobby Lobby is too far for me to drive and they aren't cheap; Joanne doesn't have a lot of what I use, so I just check for deals online.

My WalMart got rid of most of the craft supplies almost a year ago. As they remodel their stores, the craft department shrink to almost nothing. We only have one WalMart in the area who still carries the fabric and it is 1 1/2 hours away. We also do not have any craft store in the area. I do all my craft shopping online.

My hubby and I went to our new "super wal mart" for the first time yesterday. I think that it is NOT so super! All fabric-gone, all craft and sewing supplies down to 1 aisle. I was so disappointed. There is a Joanns and a Michaels within a reasonable distance (I am lucky in that I guess) but much more expensive for the same stuff. Guess I am going to have go do most of my craft shopping online.

I can't believe it! I don't get many craft items but I relied on WalMart a lot.
It is nice that they have increased the scrapbooking section. That is my craft of choice.

It's the same way here at my walmart. Mine is going to be a walmart superstore and they got rid of all the fabric. I used to get all my fabric at walmart. I couldn't believe it. I guess I have to go to michaels to get most of my stuff and for the fabric (for pillows and stuff) I have to find a store that sells it.

I remember when they first started removing the fabric sections. Someone claimed to have insider knowledge and they reported that the craft departments were one of the few that had to have a staff member in the department full-time. (Makes sense.) Many of them had 2-3 on the floor at any time. The accountants saw that as too much overhead and started cutting the crafts from the "underperforming stores", particularly trims and fabric where a staff member was needed. (I hate bean counters who care so little about their customers!!! )

What made most of the people discussing it mad was that many lived in cities and towns where the Wal-Marts had put the original craft shops out of business. Now they have no local place for materials at any price and have to drive hours away or rely on online shopping.

The scrapbooking section is getting bigger because those materials don't expire like paint, get easily messy like yarn and can be stocked by anyone.
