Default Cross stitch question
Old 03-09-2006, 02:27 PM #1 (permalink)

I guess this question is for the more experienced cross stitchers so here goes: If I change the type of fabric, from say 28 count weave to 14 count weave to work a cross stitch design will the design be distorted or does it really matter which count the design is worked on?

It won't be distorted...I've taken lots of 14 count projects and done them on higher counts because of half and quarter stitches. So to take something and do the opposite should be fine...just make sure you've got enough material.

Good Luck!!!

Hi Tammi

Very interesting. Do you find it easier to work half and quarter stitches on higher counts or is it another reason? I would really like to know because don't like to make them . I have a pattern which calls for a lot of those stitches. I decided to leave them until the last just before I back stitch.

Hi!

Yea with the high count canvas working over 2 threads....when i've got a project with alot of 1/4 and 3/4 stitches I'll go with the higher count. I think it makes it look neater and I don't have to work at making the hole to put it in.

But if you've got a project that's huge at 14 count...you might want to suck it up and do it at 14, cause 28 is going to make it twice as big!
