Long before there was graphing kits and computer kits--I made cross-stitch patterns by placing onion-skin paper over a picture & traced the picture--then I made my chart & graph paper by using a ruler & pencil--I would place the graph paper on top of the onion-skin--tape it down--hold it up to a lampshade & draw onto the graph paper--when I finished that, I would go to the kitchen table & rearrange the picture I had just traced-- to fix within the little squares. Most of my pictures were from my childrenīs coloring books, but the cross-stitch turned out fine--I gave them as gifts--& everyone was pleased. Iīm not knocking the technology that we have today--all Iīm saying is that nothing will ever take the place of the imagination of a determined person!

Some of these software programs are shareware and most are very reasonable in price. It can't hurt to try them!
