Embroidery Floss (colorfast)

PJ: she is new to embroidery. She recently made an apron with cross-stitch border. When it came time to wash the apron, the red floss ran, ruining the apron. Should I be washing all my floss in cold water prior to starting a project?

Meagan: usually runs cold water through a new skein of floss before using it, especially if it is red or black (or any really dark or intense color) To do this, simply remove the paper wrapping and put it in a bowl with some cold water in it.
