Default Circular Afghan
Old 01-16-2009, 08:45 AM   #1 (permalink)

I am currently looking for a circular (round) afghan pattern that doesn't have deep points on it. I am making this as a prayer afghan for a woman who has cancer. It's going to be pink(not sure of colors yet but it will be a solid pink or a skein that has multi colors) I wont do multi colors that I have to slip stitch in there. (just too much work for me right now with 4 kids) So either solid or a skein itself that has multi in it.

If anyone knows where I can find a pattern that is elegant I'd really appreciate it. I dont have timeto try to figure it out on my own. I wish I could. Nothing fancy at all, either single crochet or double or something like that so it's warm with no frilly stuff in the pattern. The edging i'm not sure about, maybe a wave or a little frindge.

Any suggestions?

I dont crochet any more, my eyesite is so bad, but did this search, maybe you can find something there..

round afghan pattern crochet - Google Search

I found these two, one is reg. size & one is baby size

ROUND AFGHAN - DIRECTIONS

(A variation of a pattern originally put out by Columbia Minerva)

Materials : 12 3.5 oz skeins worsted weight (1 for each of 12 wedges) and at least 3 3.5 oz skeins for border

Hook : Size J

Adult Size : Start by chaining 101 loosely.

For Baby/Child size, chain 75.

First Wedge

Row 1 - SC in 2nd chain from hook, CH 1 , Skip 1 chain, SC in next CH, *CH 1, Skip next chain, SC in next CH* to end, ending with SC. CH1, turn.

Row 2 - *SC in space, CH1, SC in next space* to end, SC in turning CH ch 1, turn.

Row 3 - Repeat Row 2 to last 3 SCís (2 spaces) SL ST in next to last space. CH 1, turn.

Row 4 - Repeat Row 2.

Continue Repeating Rows 3 and 4, forming a triangle wedge, until your last repeat of Row 2 has only a SC in space and a SC in turning CH, Ch1, turn..

Wedges 2 - 12

Change colors for the next wedge, CH1, turn.

This row picks up stitches for the foundation row of the next wedge. SC in first space, CH1, SC in SL ST, CH 1, *SC in next space, CH1, SC in SL ST, CH 1* repeat to end (point of triangle) and SC in last ST, CH 1, turn.

Starting with Row 2, repeat the same as for Wedge 1.

Continue in pattern until all 12 wedges have been completed. End off.

Sew seam between 1st and 12th wedges.

Border

Beginning anywhere, attach yarn, and SC, CH 1, SC, CH1, around entire afghan border, join with slip stitch, CH1, DO NOT TURN.

Rows 2,3 - SC in SP, CH1, skip SC all around - join with slip stitch.

Row 4 - Increase every 5 stitches by doing 2 (SC, CH1) in one space. Join with slip stitch, CH1, do not turn.

Row 5 - 9 - Repeat Row 2.

Row 10 - Increase every 8 stitches.

Rows 11 -13 - Repeat Row 2.

Row 14 - Shell Stitch. Starting at first SP, SC, skip a SP, 5 DC in next SP, skip a SP, 5 DC in next SP around, join with slip stitch, end off.

Weave in all ends. Draw the small hole in center of the afghan tight by drawing yarn through each stitch and pulling tight - tie off - weave in ends.

Round Baby Blanket

Materials:
M hook (This might be kind of hard to find; I used it because I'd just bought a set of Crystallites hooks at Wal-Mart & hadn't ever seen an M hook before. Feel free to use an N even if your gauge is off; bigger won't hurt with a blanket.)
sport weight yarn in two colors (I used Lion Brand's Pound of Love), approx 8 oz each color
stitch marker

Gauge:
3 rounds of HDC = 1"; 3 HDC = 1"

Finished size is about 36" diameter, approximately the size of a store-bought receiving blanket. As you can tell from the second photo, it's plenty big enough to cover and 18-month-old.

Note: Change colors after every 3rd row. (3 rows color A, 3 rows color B)
Note: Piece is worked in a continuous spiral, without the usual joining slst. Use a stitch marker to keep your place.
(I also really, really recommend crocheting over your yarn ends as you go along, or else there will be a bazillion to weave in at the end.)

Directions:

Ch 2.

1) HDC six times into 2nd chain from hook (this will form a circle). 6 HDC
2) HDC twice in each st. 12 HDC
3) *HDC once in 1 st; HDC twice in next st* around. 18 HDC
4) *HDC once in each of 2 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 24 HDC
5) *HDC once in each of 3 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 30 HDC
6) *HDC once in each of 4 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 36 HDC
7) *HDC once in each of 5 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 42 HDC
8) *HDC once in each of 6 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 48 HDC
9) *HDC once in each of 7 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 54 HDC
10) *HDC once in each of 8 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 60 HDC
11) *HDC once in each of 9 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 66 HDC
12) *HDC once in each of 10 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 72 HDC
13) *HDC once in each of 11 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 78 HDC
14) *HDC once in each of 12 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 84 HDC
15) *HDC once in each of 13 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 90 HDC
16) *HDC once in each of 14 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 96 HDC
17) *HDC once in each of 15 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 102 HDC
18) *HDC once in each of 16 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 108 HDC
19) *HDC once in each of 17 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 114 HDC
20) *HDC once in each of 18 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 120 HDC
21) *HDC once in each of 19 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 126 HDC
22) *HDC once in each of 20 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 132 HDC
23) *HDC once in each of 21 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 138 HDC
24) *HDC once in each of 22 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 144 HDC
25) *HDC once in each of 23 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 150 HDC
26) *HDC once in each of 24 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 156 HDC
27) *HDC once in each of 25 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 162 HDC
28) *HDC once in each of 26 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 168 HDC
29) *HDC once in each of 27 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 174 HDC
30) *HDC once in each of 28 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 180 HDC
31) *HDC once in each of 29 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 186 HDC
32) *HDC once in each of 30 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 192 HDC
33) *HDC once in each of 31 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 198 HDC
34) *HDC once in each of 32 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 204 HDC
35) *HDC once in each of 33 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 210 HDC
36) *HDC once in each of 34 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 216 HDC
37) *HDC once in each of 35 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 222 HDC
38) *HDC once in each of 36 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 228 HDC
39) *HDC once in each of 37 sts; HDC twice in next st* around. 234 HDC

At end of round 39, if you want the edging to be in a different color, finish off & attach the other color (should be finishing in color A). The edging is a simple matter of: *Slst, ch 3, sl st in next st* around, but of course any edging will work.

Yes, those patterns are in the links on the first page.

Also, wanted to say this is a wonderful thing you are doing for her too. I am positive she will be very appreciative.
