Default Hair Bun Cover (also called a "snood")
Old 08-28-2008, 08:05 AM   #1 (permalink)

I am looking for crochet patterns for bun covers (snoods) to make for my daughter-in-law for her birthday. She doesn't like the one I was able to find on line so I thought I'd see if anyone out there had any patterns.

I think this is similar to the one I used for my daughter to cover her buns for ballet:Free Craft Patterns
If you go into crochet and then into hair accessories it's listed as a bun snood. This kind is not too big so it holds the hair well as long as hair isn't too thick.

This is not exactly what I wanted. It is like the one on Scarlet Ohara in Gone with the Wind. Thank you so much though!

There's no picture, but this one claims to be what you are looking for (Scarlet's Snood)

Perky Snood - From the 1940"s.*This one is like the one wore by Scarlet wore in "Gone with the Wind".

Here's a pattern with a pic:

Perky Snood*- Forget the baseball cap and reach for your snood instead.

But, I'll tell ya what alot of ppl are doing to make snoods.... take an ordinary doily pattern, work it's rounds until complete... but don't finish off... instead, make a row of eyelets around the doily, then work a couple rounds of SC or DC and finish off. Then, find a matching ribbon, or make a chain long enough to go around the head, + 24 inches. Work the ribbon/chain thru the eyelets, and use that to tie around the head, tie into a bow under the hair.
I've been thinking of making one myself... with my crazy hormones and possible thyroid problems, I seem to have more hair in the floor than on my head, I'd like to have something to tie my hair up with so I'm not sweeping it up all day.

Hope I've helped!

This is very helpful. I like the idea of getting doilies and finishing it off. That is great. I thank you very much!
