Default My Two Toned Beaked hat
Old 08-04-2008, 11:13 PM   #1 (permalink)

I made this hat to cover my glasses in the winter because I was frustrated at getting snow spots on them.
size fits all. I used Bernat Super Value yarn, color “A” # 53243 and color “B” #07414.

Materials: Worsted-weight yarn in two colors, [small amount of color B] hook size g (4mm) and row markers.
Gauge: 4 sc + 1”: 4 rows+1”
Stitches used: sc, sc back loops, and alternating sc and dc.

Crown of Hat
With “A” ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), work 6 sc into ring.
Do not join this or any other round. From this point on to end of rnd 11, work in back loops of sc only.
Rnd 2 and 3: 2 sc in each sc around. (24) Place marker to mark each round.
Rnd 4: *sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end. (30)
Rnd 5: *sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end. (36)
Rnd 6: *sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end. (42)
Rnds 7 – 11: Working 1 more sc between incs repeat rnd 6, 5 more times.

Side of hat
Rnd 12 – 23: Now you will be working in both loops of each sc. This is where you start to alternate sc and dc.
Still working with color “A”, * 1 sc in next sc, 1 dc in the next dc* Repeat all around evenly to end of RND 23.
Do not fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail.

Hat Band
Attach color “B”.
Rnds 1 – 4: sc round.
Fasten off.

Beak
Still working with color “b”.
Fold hat in half to find the middle of the hat front. Place marker. Count 15 sts either side of marker. (30 sts). Place markers at both of the 15 sts. (I hope this makes sense)
Rnd 1: Working on backside of work, starting at the 15-st marker, sc to the other 15-st marker. Ch 1 and turn.
Rnds 2 – 6: Dec 1 sc in each sc across, 1 sc dec at end, ch 1 and turn.
At end of Rnd 6, sc all around the hat and beak to the end sc of rnd 6. Fasten off.

Now you are done! You should have a sort of spiral pattern on the crown, a bumpy pattern at sides and sc rows for the band and beak. It took me a bout a week to figure out and to make. You should be faster!

I made this pattern myself and I’m going over it in my head to write down. I hope this makes sense.
