Size: One size fits all, or you can make smaller using thinner cotton, or yarn to fit a child.
Materials:
Use hook size 4.00 mm, white crochet cotton, the type used for dishcloths and heart shaped buttons etc for decoration.
Crown:
Ch 4. Join with ss to form ring.
Round 1: 8 sc in ring
Round 2: 2 sc in ea sc of previous round (16 sc)
Round 3: 1 sc in ea sc of previous round
Round 4: 2 sc sc in ea sc of previous round (32 sc)
Round 5 & 6: 1 sc in ea sc of previous round
Round 7: *2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in next sc. Repeat from * to end of round (48 sc)
Rounds 8 & 9: 1 sc in ea sc of previous round
Round 10: *2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from* to end of round (64 sc)
Rounds 11 & 12: 1 sc in ea sc of previous round
Round 13: *2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from* to end of round (80 sc)
Rounds 14 & 15: 1 sc in ea sc of previous round
Round 16: *2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in next 4 sc. Repeat from* to end of round
Rounds 17 & 27: 1 sc in ea sc of previous round
Side of Hat:
Row 1: sc in back loops only of last round of crown, sl to first sc and ch 1.
Row 2: sc in both loops in each sc of previous row, join with sl and ch 1.
Rows 3-12: Repeat row 2 and fasten off.
Beak:
This is worked like the beak of my Two Toned Beaked Hat as follows:
Rnds 1-4: Working on back side of rows, sc in ea sc in both loops of next 30 sc. Ch1 and turn.
Rnd 5: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 26 sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 6: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 24 sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 7: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 22 sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 8: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 20sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 9: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 18 sc. Dec 1.
Rnd 10: sc in ea sc all round hat. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Decorate with the heart shaped buttons, fancy ribbons, or what ever you like!
