CROCHET BASICS
This is a great site to learn basic stitches in text. Your dish sponges turned out great and now you are on your way.

Looks Great!!
This would be perfect for some of those lotion type soaps....Dove for example. They tend to get really soft in the shower!

That's true.

I was thinking more about my kids when I did that one. The kids tend to "lose" the soap in the bathtub and it melts away while they are playing, this way they would always know where it was, and keep it from sitting in the water the whole time they are playing.

Wow what a great idea. I love crafting but it seems most South Africans do not really like to receive hand made items. Why do you think that would be. To me a "surprise hand made" gift says something about the person giving it..... I just don't understand it.... I would love to give one or two of these cotton dish sponges to a friend. Sorry for complaining. I think South Africans are just too complacent - oops!!!!!!!!!

In some cultures hand made gifts are viewed as a reflection of poverty rather than creativity. Western cultures seem more likely to view a hand made gift as something that required thought, work, and was specifically chosen for them. Personally, I view hand crafted gifts as special and cherish all that I get!

I don't think it is just South Africian's. I think there are people all over that don't understand and value them.

I remember as a kid growing up I got to an age where I had to have store bought skirt not a handmade one, because I felt like I stuck out in school.

I know some people even today who still view handmade gifts as cheap....

But I think that is changing, especially the more enviornmentally aware we all become. Someone sent me a link to a blog about the earth friendliness of using the hand crocheted sponges instead of the ones you can buy in the store.
