A challenge for teens |

Growing up in a lower middle class family I know what it feels like to be just above getting charity but below being able to have just a little better of things.
I know my parents did their best, and I don't complain about my upbringing.
But it was hardest my teen years. My clothes were always bottom of the barrel discount. Again, don't get me wrong. I had warm clothes. But kids, especially teenagers, can be cruel.
The teens are often overlooked. And in this economy where adults are taking typical teen jobs, they can't always just get a job and buy the stuff themselves.
And, again not a complaint, there were times when my babysitting money bought the gas to get me to school for the dance. Mom hated it, but I appreciated those dances more than anyone.
So I'd like to issue a crafters challenge.
Make 6 cold weather necessities. 6 hats; 6 scarves; or 6 mittens...or 6 sets of each... and give them to either someone you know who has teenagers who is struggling right now or (what I'm going to do) take them to the local high school to give out. Leaving them with specific instructions to give them to some one who doesn't qualify for public assistance, but might otherwise not have what's popular.
I'm not against giving to the others, that's not what this is about.
The challenge is to find out what's popular in your area so the kids can have something "in" or "cool". Here fingerless glove with covers to convert them to mittens and hats with ear flaps made with fun yarns are "in"...but it's easy for me, I have a 15 year old daughter.
There is no time limit on this one. And if you get inspired to do more, terrific.
What ever medium you like. Sew, Knit, or Crochet. Post the pics and tell where you gave them.
Oh, and if you see some one wearing what you donated just smile and say, "nice..." that will be your gift to yourself.
Thanks for remembering how hard it is to be a teenager
