Default Molding and casting Jewelry-a ring
Old 08-20-2009, 10:24 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi there, Here is an example of a cast ring that I made in a ComposiMold mold. The blue ring is the ring that I cast. The other ring is the original. Here's the steps for making it:
  • Place original ring into a small plastic cup.
  • Spray with a mold release
  • Melt the ComposiMold (this took ~30 seconds to melt enough to cover the ring)
  • Let the ComposiMold solidify (I put in the refrigerator to speed it up, ~20 minutes)
  • Pulled the ComposiMold out of the plastic cup and removed the original ring
  • Mixed up a little polyurethane resin and added a little blue
  • Poured the resin into ComposiMold mold and let it cure (~10 minutes)
  • Pulled out the new ring and the duplicate is complete.

Thanks

Stan

I thought it would be harder, but it was very simple. Basically, I dropped the original ring in a small cup and poured on the ComposiMold. Then I poured in the polyurethane resin and let it cure. I thought I would have to deal with a mold line, but with this ring I did not need to.

Thanks
stan
