| There is allot of information on the internet on how to do coptic bookbinding. That is where I learned to make books like this. My covers were cut from MDF (Craftwood). Some of the beads are made with scrap paper. (Cut a very long narrow triangle of paper and roll it around a shiskabab stick or a straw, if you want larger holes.) There are hundreds or maybe even thousands of ways to decorate the covers limited only by you imagination. These books were all made completely from scratch using A4 or cut-down A3 sheets of paper for the pages, MDF or scrap timber for the covers. Some have scroll saw cutouts, some have hand painted areas, some covered with fabric offcuts, pieces of bark from my gum tree, as you can see in the photos.
I love doing coptic bookbinding because it can involve so many different crafts when decorating the covers. Hand painting, decoupage, folk art, scrapbook techniques, quilting, weaving, beading, nature crafts, printing, stamping ... and maybe I missed a few! |
