| Every pattern is different. But if you buy say a cross stitch pattern you can not photo copy that pattern to give away. Just like you are not supposed to photo copy books and give them away.
If you buy a pattern and it says you can make X number of the finished product to sell, fine. What you can not do is take it to the office store and photo copy the pattern to give or sell.
Sometimes you aren't even supposed to sell the item you make from the pattern. Sometimes you can get permission from the patterns creator.
"personal use" is not giving copies away. I photo copy cross stitch patterns so I can highlight them as I go along. When the project is finished the pattern is essencially ruined with marker. Just to be on the up and up I then shred the copy. That's "personal use".
It's all very complicated. The best way to stay out of trouble is to stay out of troubles way. Thus the blanket don't ask don't give. If you really want to make one yourself google the name of the object (pattern for crocheted fingernail clippings holder). It may also be helpful if people list the pattern they used (McCalls 3420-copyright 1954[just made that up, no idea what it is]).
It's the mods job to keep the board "clean", respect that. Also, if you've ever created a pattern you know how much work it is. You don't want to then lose money on photo copies.
Everyone does it: the news said yesterday that 1 in 11 people shoplift....
Thanks cupcake for maintaining the integrity of the board. |
