Anyone have an opinion? I'm looking at buying a new desktop and it's hard to find any with XP on them. Everything is Vista these days. I've heard Vista is difficult to work with. So I'm a bit aprehensive about buying a new system. We use XP at work and I'm very comfortable with it. HELP!?
I just bought a new computer December 15 and It has Vista I am having no problem (knock on wood ) we got a really good deal at office max it's a HP it came with windows vista Roxio creator auto producer microsoft works 8 norton internet security 2007 it also came with HP all in one printer copier photo as a bonus I got a HP digital camera ohh and best part 20" diagonal widescreen LCD flat panel monitor ;)
Norene if you still have your old cd with the Windows Xp you loaded into your old computer you can load it into your new one after you uninstall the Vista. My computer tech told us that the Vista just has more bells and whistles but he only has it on 1 of his computers and Xp on the rest.
No I am not by any means very computer literate, however II had no DIFFICULTIES re adusting (for the most part... there are still a couple of little things) HOWEVER! It is a pain in the butt! There are all kinds of security stupid things AND hubby tells me that with VISTA - microsoft can go into your computer to check for illegal softwear.
So while I don't think that you would have a problem using it, IF you can uninstall VISTA and install XP as suggested, it might be a good idea! And gosh darn it! I wish we had though of that because I think I have the install disk for XP! (We upgraded one of the comupters to XP and BOUGHT XP to go in it)
I totally agree with Slide. We purchased a Vista Computer last year for my daughter and the problem we find with Vista is that certain software is not compatible. When we go to install things, sometimes her computer won't recognize the Driver due to this system and we have to manually put things on her computer. If you have no old software that you want to put on it, then you should be just fine, but the system does block certain things for security reasons and it does become aggravating. Best of luck.
Well I Have A Gateway Emachine With Xp...love It, Love It, Love It. I Just Got A Toshiba Laptop With Vista And I Love It, Love It, Love It. All I Use The Laptop For Is Email, Surfing And To Check On My Sites Etc. I Wanted It So I Could Take It With Me On Trips Etc. It Is Fast And Does What I Want. I Am Not A Computer Genius So This Is Just Fine With Me. I Use My Desk Top For All My Major Computer Work On My Site Etc. My Son In Law Says When You Buy A Vista Some Places Will Put Xp On For You Such As Best Buy. He Also Said I Could Use My Xp Disc If It Is Compatible. So Far I Am Just Happy The Way It Is. Actually I Think It Is Better Then My Xp . My Xp Is Just Two Years Old ...as Soon As You Walk Out The Store With Your New Computer Already There Is One Better. The Toshiba Laptop I Have Is New So It Seems So Much Nicer..Oh by the way everyone told me that laptops don't come with xp anymore. I got mine at Circuit City and got a free printer, router and norton 2008.

Well, hubby wanted a cheap laptop of his own.......... So he got an Acer laptop at Wal-mart this weekend. It does have Vista, and the only thing I've really noticed is that when you want to download something, it asks you if you initiated this download and if you really want to do it. That's the "better security". All he wants it for is to surf the net and download movies from our cam-corder so he can critique the boys's sports games. :shake: So....... it seems to be working fine. He just wanted something that the boys wouldn't clog up with all their downloaded crap. DS#1 got ahold of it last night though and was messing with iTunes on it so now it has that downloaded. Needless to say........... DS#1 isn't alowed to touch it anymore.
I can still build and order a desktop computer with XP from the Dell website. I think I might do that.
I prefer XP too, but I did get a laptop after Xmas and it has Vista on it. So far I don't have a problem with it, but I only use it for going online so far. I did download GoLive and Microsoft Office 2003, instead of using their trial version. I love my laptop so far. It does have a lot of security features that I like. It also automatically downloads updates that I always forget to do on my desktop.
Congrats "Bartkowski mom" - (Norene) on your new laptop. Ya know, my son is really up on computers and his thought was that it's better to have Vista because any problems get corrected on their updates and that there are constant improvements being made. My son also mentioned that there may come a time when other Window versions are no longer supported so that whether Vista is liked or not, it should be used when possible.
