I visited a new site today, (the conversion site) and ever since then certain words are high lighted and turned into links! I have ran 2 different spy ware things and it's STILL doing it! Please help me! It's a new computer and my pop up blocker is no longer working. I keep getting pop ups from "aurora" and most of them are not good! What did I do wrong and how can I fix it!
What spy ware programs did you run? Did you run your anti virus software as well? Are your spy ware programs updated with the latest down loads from them?
How do I run my anti virus? I'll find the names of the spyware programs I used when I get home from work.
Depending on what anti virus you are running there should be an icon at the bottom of your screen. If it is not there go to start-programs-your anti virus.
Now click on your icon or your version of your anti virus in the programs, once you have done that you program should come up in a window. Now depending what it is again look for a scan icon to do a full system scan. Also while in there look for a update icon for live up dates. After you have done a full system scan I would suggest downloading the latest updates if it is not automatically for you. This could take some time if you have not update for a while. Then once it has been updated run your scan again.
Another thing I was thinking about was it could be a highjacker and I am not sure how to check for this as it is still new to me.
Lets try the virus scan first and let me know what spy ware you have then we can go from there.
I had the same problem after my daughter was playing some games on my computer. Even with the pop up blocker, they were still coming up. I had to locate the programs linked to the pop up links, from control panel / add/remove programs. Then deleted those program(s). I'm not a computer expert, but this worked for me.
My anti virus is AVG. I just did a scan and I had 4 trojans. They were quaratened and then it did a self heal on 3 things. The spy ware scan I did is the one that Patricia and you were talking about in another post on here.
Even after the anit virus removed those trojans, I am still getting pop ups (but blocker is working again) and certain words are still highlighted links. I'll try working on it again when I get home tonight.
Thank you Leah! I didn't kow I was supposed to do a scan myself. I thought the anti virus did it itself!
Some of them do and some don't. I only have norton right now and it comes on automatically. Look at AVG and see if the have a setting so that it will run all the time. I have to download AVG yet. I usually do my scans in the morning or just before I shut the computer down at night. I have started running all my security everyday because of all the crap when I surf. Myself and Hubby do a lot of surfing on the computer so we do the security all the time now. Especially since that last virus attack which cost me over 170.00 to get it cleaned. You could try what Lori said as well.
I have a pop up blocker but there is a couple still coming through. I am going to have to do some cleaning up myself I think.
Keep me posted and if you need anymore help just give me a yell. I will be on most of tonight as I have to get my behind listing again.
I ran my anti virus again, didn't find anything. I ran Ad Aware and found LOTS of things. But I was still having the same problems, so I downloaded Spy Sweeper and found lots more. The green highlighted linked words are now gone, but I am still getting lots of pop ups from whoohaaaa or something like that. I think it's a high jacker. It takes over my browser and takes me to some other site. I'm going try to find out how to get rid of it and if I don't the IT guys at work said they'll work on it tomorrow.
This is sooooooo frustrating! I can't get anything else done.
I hear you. We had a high jacker not long ago and frustration wasn't the word. I would just log on and it would send me to a very nasty site. We ended up having to take our into the tech and now this morning my computer is trying to tell me I need my hard drive replaced. I am telling you this is driving me nuts. We just got it home from the shop.
I am not good at the high jacker stuff so hopefully it IT guys can help you out. I wish I was more help but they are coming out faster then I can catch up.
