I CAN NOT DO DEFRAG OR SCAN DISC. A MESSAGE SAYS I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MEMORY AND TO CLOSE OUT SOME PROGRAMS.I DID THAT AND STILL IT WONT WORK. I HAD GOTTEN A NEW HARD DRIVE WITH THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF MEMORY FOR MY COMPUTER. I THEN SWITCHED TO CABLE INTERNET FROM AOL AND THAT IS WHEN THIS STARTED. MY COMPUTER GUY AND THE CABLE COMPANY SAID I HAVE PLENTY OF MEMORY. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS.
Okay first I need to know have you ran your virus scan as well as a spyware scan?
There are certain virus out there that will open programs with out you knowing and will use up your memory without showing. If you haven't ran these do so.
We ran into this problem last year. It was a virus. Let me know I will be back in about an hour or so.

WELL WE DID A VIRUS SCAN SUNDAY. WE DO HAVE AD AWARE AND WILL HAVE MY DAUGHTER CHECK THAT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DEFRAG AND SCAN SINCE THE END OF SEPT. THATS WHEN I GOT THE HIGH SPEED INTERNET.
Ok then let me think. Weird ok this is what I am going to do. I have to go to my buddy's computer shop in the morning. I am going to run it by him. It just sounds funny that when you switched over services it won't let you do those things. What operating sysmtem are you running?
I will get an answer to you as soon as I talk to him.
Finally getting on here. We seem to be having trouble with the net here today. A lot of people getting mad at our server. Anyways I talked to the computer guy today. He suggests trying this. Unfortunately I am not close enough to you to come over and play with your computer so let give this a try.
Disconnect the cable modem
Shut your screen saver off if you use one
Disable all anti virus, spy ware, etc
Than try doing a disk scan or defrag.
If you have other programs which come on when you turn the computer disable them as well such as real player, messenger, etc.
