| Now here is a scary sitiuation. You are sitting there near your computer, you are not connected to the internet and it all of a sudden dials itself. OR you receive your monthly phone bill and pass out on the floor because it is huge and you have not made any of the long distance calls on the bill.
Well it could mean you have a dialer. These come through different ways such as a email, pop up add. They are very costly. Last year in Ontario Canada alone they cost customers a fair chunk of change, and the phone company will insist on you paying them.
A dialer will get your numbers through the dial up connection of your computer and from there they use your number for long distance calls usually to other countries especially overseas. A lady not far from where I am ended up with a 2000.00 phone bill because she had this happend to her.
There are a few ways of dealing with this.
1. When the computer is not in use shut it down
2. Installing a program to look and destory if a dialer tries to get to your computer. I suggest Spybot-Search and Destory which is a free download from download.com
3. Avoid pop-ups. If one should show up on the screen close it right away. Don't click on it. This does help to an extent.
I will be gathering more information on this as time allows so I will keep you updated.
Keep it safe
pm me if you have any questions or post them here and I will try my hardest to help in away I can
