Computer not turning on every time??

[img]images/smiley_icons/confused.gif[/img] Ok!! I need some help!! when I try and click on my computer sometimes it wont start!!



Any ideas on which componant I need to replace!! I have replaces other parts, I don't think me C drive?? Where I put in my flopies is working, could this be part of it???



I could be way off but I'm sure there is not much relly wrong, just something worn out and I'm not afraid to take apart and replace!!

Patricia...I'm not sure if this will help....but a friend of Al's had this problem and he had her do a scandisk and now it's fine.

Oh boy...you girls....Guess I'm going to have to have Leah start computer class soon for basic computer maintence that should be done on a regular basis. [img]images/smiley_icons/hysterical.gif[/img]

First I need to know what operating system you're running, then I'll tell you how to do a scandisk and defrag your computer if you don't know how to do that either.

I am here finally. Sorry about that ladies. The car is finally gone so I can concentrate here.

When you click on my computer you say sometimes it won't start? Is the correct?



There could be a couple of different things you need to do.



First you need to scan the computer for virus. This happens from time to time. When a unknown virus attacks a computer it will take control of these certain things



What virus protection do you have?

I also need to know what operating system you are running windows 98, 2000 etc.



I need to know what operating system you have before I can really continue.



When you do click on my computer and it goes Is there a little flash light that looks like it is searching?



Let me know asap and we can maybe get it cleaned up and running right.



I am going to be here most of the day working on some updates and other things. So we might have this fixed today I hope.

OK!!! I'm running windows98



I have Norton anti-V



I have defraged before but I don't remember



As for the little yellow lite is is not coming on!! My green light comes on and the fan, but the blinking light is not coming on!!



I have the side off my puter now and will leave it off till we get this figured out!!

Ok let me get this straight. Dang wish I lived closer. Okay so when you turn your computer all systems are go but the little lite is not flickering.



Ok lets try clean it up first. When is the last time you did a live update on Norton and which version is it?



In the mean lets do a disk scan and defrag



to scan the disk:



click on start

programs

accessories

system tools

then click on scan disk( I think that is what it is windows '98)



after that finishes lets do a frag on the system



click on start

programs

accessories

system tools

then click on disk defragmenter



this is going to run for a bit so grab a coffee and some crafting



then from there we will see





keep me posted I am here for most of the day and nite just logging off now and then to check for messages means I am just on dial up which just sucks

Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2002 is what I have, I update it every year
