Now that my heart rate is back to normal....let me post yet another warning of what just happened to me and to warn all of you with a paypal account to beware of!!!
I got an e-mail that looked like it was from paypal saying payment was made to a certain person....it was for $278, I don't know this person and I surely did not make that payment.....there goes the heartrate up 100%. Luckily, I was thinking straight and DID NOT click the paypal link on that e-mail. I brought up a new browser page and logged onto paypal that way.....there was no transaction for that amount for that person on my history!!!
So this is how I'm sure they are trying to get people....freak out when you see that amount paid to someone you don't know...click the link and "log in" to paypal....but it's not paypal...and they've got access to your user name and password and then they will go and help themselves to your funds.
Please be careful with this and always bring up either paypal or e-bay or any other suspicious e-mail with another browser...DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS!!
I've gotten these kinds of e-mails from banks, CC companies, and such. The funny thing about those is....I don't have accounts with those companies.
This is the first time I've gotten one of these e-mails and wanted to just warn my friends to be on the lookout!!!
I always do the same and open my account and double check as you do!! I keep getting ones that say if you don't answer this will will consider your account is not valid!! It all drives me nuts!!
these pay-pal scam/phishing are coming as far as Australia - i've been ignoring them but was just a teeny bit anxious about them - you've put my mind at rest
Kaytee, if you're ever in doubt over an e-mail you get from paypal...forward the e-mail to this addy spoof@paypal.com You will immediately get a reply from them whether or not it's legitimate. Also if you have an e-bay acct. and get one of those also send that e-mail to spoof@ebay.com
I will say this one almost got me....but luckily I did think straight even though I freaked when I saw that e-mail saying a payment had been made. Just remember.....never ever click links on those e-mails to log in.....bring up the new browser and log on from there.
Thanks for that - I only bid on Aussie e-bay and don't even have a paypal account but these days one has to be so careful - have had some probs with our ebay here telling us our accounts were going to be cancelled if we didn't supply details and sorted that out in a similar fashion - phishing happens fequently with banks and building societys here too - amazing when you don't even have accounts with them
Well I just got another one of those e-mails today!!!! I traced the return path on both and they're from different IP #'s and both started from a yahoo e-mail.
