Default Japanese Beetles
Old 08-06-2008, 06:33 AM   #1 (permalink)

Hi everyone, Does anyone know how to get rid of Jap. beetles? I am so infested with them, I don't know what to do. I picked 73 off of one rose bush yesterday. 20 some off one rose. They only go on the one bush, along with my butterfly bush and pussywillow. I have traps set out and keep spraying to no avail. I would appreciate any help I can get.

The traps actually are a bad thing if placed in the wrong area! They draw more beetles to your garden. I don't use them...but one of my neighbors does, so I let her get them and I don't have a problem! You could try putting the traps far away from your flowers though and they'll go away from your flowers and to the traps.

Debbie the ones you are talking about are the lady beetle or stink bug as we call them that too, cause when you crush them they smell!!

Anyway the best way to get rid of the ones in your house is to clean your window frames and windows in your house. If you have wood frames in your window clean with a spray cleaner, then use a bug killer and soke the wood with it!!! My SIL also put up the sticky bug pads to trap the ones that are hiding at the time of cleaning, she was filling 2 traps a day before I suggested the bug killer on the wood frames!! She doesn't get the bugs any more. This also helps with flies too!!
These type of bugs like to lay their eggs in wood or cracks around windows cause the heat from the sun is what brings them out. My mom has them all year long cause of her chalet style house and it's wood window frames!!

As for the other bug I don't know about them!!LOL

These stupid bettles almost killed my fruit trees. We laid traps for them and they worked ok. We finally had to spray the trees 3 times a day with the hose.
