| Here are some money-saving tips my husband and I have learned. . . .
1. We make our own laundry detergent 8 cups baking soda
6 cups borax
1 or 2 bars grated soap
a few drops of essential oil
This lasts about four or five months and works great! My husband has allergies and we must be careful about what laundry detergent we use. This is great because we don't have to worry. We choose a soap he can use and all is well. We put a little vinegar in a downy ball and drop it in the washer. This helps break up the soap and helps cut odors.
2. We buy the baking soda at Sam's Club in a big bag. We also use it to clean the sinks in the bath and kitchen as well as the tub.
3. The borax and a little lemon juice are great for cleaning the toilet.
Using the borax and baking soda in these additional ways also cuts down on the amount of cleaning supplies we buy which in turn cuts down on the cost.
4. Another tip is to use water with about 1/8 cup of orange clean and a little borax to clean the floors. We buy orange clean for the counter tops and table so this way we get the floors clean as well without the cost of expensive floor cleaner. This should work either with a clorax type mop or a mop and bucket.
The other good thing about cleaning with these products is that we are not using nearly as many chemicals which is good for the environment as well as us. Hope someone may find this helpful! |
