Default Energy saver
Old 04-07-2006, 08:24 AM   #1 (permalink)

I READ ABOUT THIS IN A MAGAZINE AND THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A TRY. THE ARTICLE SAID THAT THE FLORESCENT LIGHT BULBS WOULD SAVE YOU BIG DOLLARS A YEAR. I WENT TO WALMART AND BOUGHT A PKG. OF BULBS. THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. A 3 PACK COSTS ABOUT $8 AND THEY HAVE A 5 YEAR GUARANTEE, SO SAVE THE PKG. AND RECEIPT. THEY LOOK LIKE A SPIRAL LIGHTBULB. I PUT ONE BULB IN THE KITCHEN CEILING LIGHT AND ONE IN THE LAMP IN THE LIVING ROOM. THOSE WERE THE TWO WE USED THE MOST. WELL I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. MY LIGHT BILL DROPPED $7.00... YEP THATS RIGHT $7.00, AND IT HAS REMAINED STEADY.I AM GOING TO REPLACE SOME OTHERS THAT WE USE ALSO.ONE DIFFERENCE THOUGH IS THAT WHEN YOU TURN ON THE LIGHT, IT IS DIM AND THEN BRIGHTENS FULLY.FOR 4 MONTHS NOW I HAVE SAVED 28 DOLLARS. IN ONE YEAR...$78 !!!!!

I agree with Apple... those flourescents are better. I've been using the same 3-pack in my living room for 3 years now, and they're still burning strong. And think about how many packs of bulbs you buy in one year... it will cost you more than $8, that's for sure. It's well worth the one time investment. Besides, florescents are a brighter light than incandescents, so less eye strain when crafting, too!

Thanks for mentioning this, Apple!

THEY ARE SO MUCH EASIER ON YOUR EYES. IT IS A VERY SOFT LIGHT UNLIKE THE TUBE FLORESCENTS.

What a great idea - I'll have to get me some of those. Anything helps anymore.

Thanks Apple.....

Actually I heard about that yesterday morning on one of the morning shows.....and here's another one I never thought of....those charges and things you just leave plugged in....unplug 'em.....pretty much you ain't usining it....don't keep it plugged in as a little bit of electric is always going to it!!! After hearing what gas may get up to this summer, we're all gonna have to tighten our belts this summer!!!!

We have been using those bulbs for a while now What I like best (besides the savings) is how bright they are! Not only are we saving energy because they use less, we also down graded the wattage in every bulb! if it had a 60 watt incandecent bulb, it now has a equivelent 40 watt energy saver bulb.... and it is STILL brighter!

WEll I read this thread when it was posted by Apple and I talked it over with DH!!

He had been complaing about our power bill for 2 people an dhe knows I don't keeps lights on, most times it's just me and the computer an done light on my desk on!!

He was talking with some guys at work and they went bulb by bulb over the house, and they told him where the problemn was!!

We live in a city which I didn't want to live in, but he had just bought the house when we got together and I couldn't ask him to move right away so we got in a securty system for me and He had movement lights put up all around the house!! 10 bulbs in all out side!! Thisis were the problem is!! The wind sets them off, the squires and leaves and you name it!! So some days they are on all day ans these are those bog spot light like bulbs!! So we know have changed almost every bulb in the house to the new bulbs!!

I also found that $rama here sells a phillips 11wt-40wt bright ness for a $1 each!! I have put these in all our lamps and I love it in my desk lamp cause it's metal and I could never ajust it after it was turned on cause it was so hot!! Now I can touch it and no problem!! It isn't hot at all!!

Anyway I will let you know how much our bill goes down with our next couple payments!!

We have a few other lamps that we can't change as they don't make the small socket bulbs yet!!!

Thanks for the hint Apple!!

Patricia, is there a reason why you can't switch the lights off during the day? I know the ones I USED to have were on a light switch. I would like to install some here

Yes there is, but the chances of not turning them back on are very great and they are not all in one place so you would have to go around and remember which ones to turn off and on!!

I don't think the problem was so much durning the day as it was at night!
