Default Quilling
Old 04-19-2007, 10:33 PM   #1 (permalink)

Has anyone tried the new "Combing Quilling Kit?" The description says, "This unique technique creates uniform cascading loops to make fluttering creatures or beautiful petals by using the spaced prongs on the combing tool. Kit includes quilling comb and quilling paper."

I'm wondering if this is a good thing or if I can do the same thing using pins?

Thanks.

Elaine

Elaine I do Quilling and I think if you use pins that would put holes in the paper...I will check and see what else can be used other than the Quilling Comb...

Default Quilling combing kit
Old 04-29-2008, 10:01 AM   #6 (permalink)

I happened upon this thread and thought I might be able to answer some questions. "Combing" is quite different from husking (which is when you wrap the paper around pins to create your design.) In husking, the paper is wrapped around pins while it is on edge, (much like traditional quilling), although the designs are much more open than with the traditional rolling methods. When using a quilling comb (which is actually an onion holder) the paper is wrapped around the tines, but is laying flat rather than on edge. It is an entirely different look. The quilled creations kit includes directions, papers and the "quilling comb", but you can also purchase the comb/onion holder separately and just play with it.

I am an experienced quiller (30+ years) and have a quilling web site, write a quilling blog, and am an active member of the North American Quilling guild. I invite you to visit my site www.whimsiquills.com . If you click on the Husking boards you will see examples of husking and you can see pictures of the Quilled Creations kit. You can aalso access the blog MySpace.com - Patricia - 64 - Female - Enfield, Connecticut - www.myspace.com/whimsiquillsquillingblog , the phicture gallery http://www.whimsiquills.com/servlet/...togallery/Page and free quilling patterns http://www.whimsiquills.com/servlet/...0Patterns/Page . I'll be glad to answer questions.
