Default New Beginner, Trying votives and tarts ??
Old 02-27-2005, 03:21 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hello everyone!

Well, yet another try at something new. I've decided that I wanted to try candle making. Ok, I've read lots of articles, so I figured, "doesn't look or sound that hard, Why not?".

Well, I bought molds, wax, scents, colors, you name it, I probably bought it. I've made a few batches of different scents. I did banana nut, hot cinnamon, hycinth, and nothing has come out like I thought.

So, here's my questions to the experienced candle makers.

What company has the best scents? I'm adding my scent right before I pour, so it's not because its releasing into the room.

I live about 40 miles, southeast of Pittsburgh, and so far the only place I could find for wholesale supplies has been on line and its clear on the other end of the state.

So, if anyone out there has any suggestions as far as scents, suppliers or tips.. Please by all means, feel free to post a reply.

Also, I read that vybar, would help retain the scent, so I bought that and added it to my parrafin wax(1343), now my tarts seem to get dimples(best way I can describe it) in them. Please help. I should have come here first for advice.

Thanks,

Nancy

Places to get scents:

BITTER CREEK CANDLE SUPPLY!

Tradewinds Fragrance, Wholesale Fragrance Oils - Fragrance Oils Wholesale - Colorants For Soap Making and Candle Making- Manufacturer - Bath And Body Supplies

Are you letting your candles sit for a week before burning them? That curring time can really help.

Can't help on the vybar issues.

I like all of the places I mentioned above and find it difficult to pick just one.

Pourette's tends to be expensive.

The other two both have great scents but different options.

When I was more active with candles I tended to get more stuff from http://www.candlesupply.com/ because they have great scents, prety much everyone one would need, and shipping wasn't bad because they are only one state away. They also have great customer service.

Both http://www.candlesupply.com/ and http://www.tradewindsfragrance.com/ have 1oz samples so you could try them out and decide for yourself.
