| 2 Tbsp. Salt
4 Tbsp. Borax
2 Cups Warm Water
String or Twine
Mix all ingredients.
Soak the string, let dry, and wait 3 days for it to be cured.
Roll into ball for later use.
Cut length as needed.

Dissolve borax and salt in the water.
Soak a 12 inch regular cotton kite string or twine in solution for 15 minutes.
Hang string with clothespin for 5 days to completely dry.
Use a paper clip to dip string in melted wax 3-4 times. Coating completely. Hang to dry as before.
Store wicks rolled up in a newspaper.
*Add 1 tsp. of one of the following for colored flames.
Strontium chloride=brillant red
Boric Acid=deep red
Lithium Chloride=Carmine
Calcium=red-orange
Sodium Chloride (table salt)=Bright Yellow
Borax=Yellow-Green
Copper Chloride=Blue
Copper Sulfate (blue vitriol/bluestone)=Green
Potassium Sulfate or Potassium Nitrate (Saltpeter)=Violet
Epsom Salt=White |
