Default baby food jar as votive
Old 10-01-2003, 08:42 PM   #1 (permalink)

Is it okay to actually LIGHT the tea candle I put in the baby food jar votive that I made? (it's covered with glued-on tissue paper) I just don't want any glass cracking or tissue paper melting off!

Thanks

Votive holders get very hot. I would be concerned with the glue melting. I guess you could put it on a heat resistant surface or maybe in the sink and lite it and see what happens. I certainly would test it before setting it out on the coffeetable or what ever, and before giving them as presents.

I have made candles in baby food jars and didn't have any problems with it. But I only decorated the lids. I agree too...give it a test! Your designs on the glass might come off when candle is lit.

My son brought one home that he had made for Christmas, but instead of decorating the lid, they glued cinnamon sticks to the outside. My older son once made one with tissue paper hodge podged on--I've burned it before, but I think it may have had a votive in it, not a tea light, and there haven't been any problems.
