Problems with Oil Candles

I've been trying to make oil candles with olive oil instead of paraffin lamp oil because olive oil is eco-friendly.



Although olive oil has been used for oil lamps for thousands of years, I cannot get either a fiberglass or cotton wick to burn more than a few seconds using this oil. I've also tried canola oil with no luck.



Please help! I really don't want to use the regular lamp oil because it is petroleum-based and not good for my asthma.

Problem solved!



After much experimentation, I discovered that the wick would burn just fine when immersed in pure olive oil. (I forgot to mention that my lamp prototype had essential oils mixed in with the olive oil and that definitely would not burn.)



So the culprit was the essential oils, not the olive oil or wick.
