Acorn squash candle
Cut off the top of an acorn squash. Remove seeds and flesh. Thread a wick through the bottom of the squash, using a long needle. Seal bottom with a bit of putty. Stand in a glass bowl to keep it level. Pour in melted candle wax, but reserve some for shrinkage. Poke a small hole along wick to relieve the trapped air. When candle is hardened, cut or peel away the squash. You are left with a wonderful shaped unique candle. The flesh of the squash will leave a rustic patina on the candle. Flatten the base of candle by rubbing it on an old frying pan on low heat.
