Default Cozy mystery suggestions
Old 03-17-2008, 01:27 AM   #12 (permalink)

I am going to take a look at some of the suggestions on this thread because I LOVE cozy mysteries. Here are my two favorite series in this genre:
  1. Mrs. Polifax series by Dorothy Gilman. She's an older lady that starts working for the CIA.
  2. MacLaren Yarbrough series by Patricia Sprinkle. A wonderful setting in Georgia, small town, unique characters and MacLaren is a hoot. She is also an older lady who becomes the magistrate and tends to get in a lot of trouble!
By this list, you would think I was 60 and not 32! But the characters are excellent and the woman are strong and independent thinkers that let you know it doesn't matter what age you are, you can do anything you set your mind to doing.

Happy reading,
Jo

There's a series by Maggie Sefton based on a knitting shop in Colorado. I read the whole series and am hoping that she will be writing more. I've bought a couple by Monica Ferris, plan to get the whole series... wont' read the first until I do that way I don't have to wait! There's also a couple by Mary Kruger involving knitting. Maggie Bruce series on gourds and she has another called Murder Most Crafty. Mary Ellen Hughes has a couple as well. While at the bookstore I noticed that there are many different mystery series that are either craft related or small business related like the Tea Shop and there is another one that is Garden related... I plan to get them ALL!!!!! I love murder mysteries and more so if craft related.

I forgot to mention that the books, at least the ones I've looked at, have either craft project or recipes or both in them as well....

I have recently discovered Joanne Fluke and her Hannah Swenson series myself and I LOVE them!!!! They are an excellent and humorous read. I also quite enjoy Lillian Jackson Braun's Cat Who books. The main characters are an aging bachelor newspaper man and his two Siamese cats, Koko and Yum-Yum. Like Joanne Fluke these are lighthearted and often funny. Hope you enjoy!
