Default Crock Pot Hot Soap Process
Old 07-24-2008, 02:12 PM   #1 (permalink)

After many weeks I finally made some soap from scratch. I decided to the hot process soap making in my crock pot. I am hooked. I have made three batches the first one was a complete mess but that is part of the learning curve. The next batch was a pomegranate, and yesterdays batch ocean breeze. It was really easy and I love the fact that it doesn't have to cure nearly as long as Cold Process. You can basically use it after a couple of hours instead of 4 to 6 weeks.

I made my recipe using a soaping calculator I found on line. The soap is made of olive oil, palm oil, coconut oil, shea butter and mango butter. I am surprised how it turned out. Big bubbles, lots of lather, rich and creamy. So far everyone that has tried it is loving the lather and the silky feeling it is having on their hands when using it and afterwards they say their hands feel super soft.

This is the tutorial I used:Hot Process Soap Instructions : Candle & Soap Making Techniques

So after many months of worrying about working with lye and many late nights of researching and more researching I finally did it and think I have a winning recipe.

As soon as I am able I will post some pics.

Smiles n hugs
Leah

Default What Scent do You Like Your Soap?????
Old 07-24-2008, 02:14 PM   #2 (permalink)

I am now making Hot Processed Soaps and just wondering what scents people like.

What scents do you like in your soaps?

Are you a plain Jane, floral scent, fruit, soft scents such as vanilla, exotic, natural scents like cucumber, a clean like rain or fresh linen off the line??

Smiles n hugs
Leah

I may try to make some of these too. I like the idea of using a crock pot or the microwave technique.

Thanks for sharing that. I wondered exactly what the hot process soap was and this is great.

As to your other question about scents, since having kids I can't tolerate heavy scents anymore. Not sure what happened, but when I was pregnant I was super senstive to scents, and it would make me sick. Now, even though I am not longer pregnant, in fact the baby is FOUR, I am still somewhat senstivie to scents, so I tend to go for the more mild things....

Love plumeria, but I have to have it really mild or I end up with a headache.

I like..........

fresh scents.......
rain
cucumber

fruity scents...........
strawberry
melons
lemon
raspberry - this seems like a hard one for people to do! Once you use it you usually end up smelling like a wine cooler. The Bath & Bodyworks one does that ALL the time.

Seasonal..........
Pumpkin Spice
candy cane
brown sugar & fig - LOVE this scent in the fall
Ginger bread

About the only floral scent I like is Sweet Pea.

I can't wait to try some of your soap leah!

Leah, you are amazing . I have read through the process, even though I have not made soap in 5 years I am willing to try this. After with Bobby being in school now I have free time.
