Talking Going on 38 & becoming a Nana...
Old 06-24-2008, 12:25 PM   #1 (permalink)

I will be 38 in September and my grandbaby is due in December. I am very excited.

I know that my son and his girlfriend will be wonderful parents.

Does anyone have ideas on how to plan a great baby-shower (I am throwing it in October) for a family on a single income?
My husband is the only one that works and we take in the "community children". I know that we really need to say NO, but how do you turn away a child?
I am making the party favors and have already started. I have printed out games, but do not know what to do for prizes... this is the FIRST baby-shower I have done and I want it to be wonderful.
I am going to make the invitations by scanning the ultrasound that will be done on July 7th, which is the 20th week mark. I thought that would make this more personal and I already have the card stock.
I really need Idea's for center-pieces, decorations, anything that can help.... I know that all of you here are marvelous and have such creative minds.
Any help is so appreciated. I will be going through the thread again as I saw some things, but will be running out the door to set up for one of my "add-on girls" sweet 16 party.
Thank you so much and for taking the time for being a part of this "FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE" with me!

Wow. I'm so excited for you! I remember this favor at a baby shower. They had baby bottles filled with pink and blue jelly beans. So cute! The last baby shower that I went to had everyone bring one piece of newborn baby's clothing. Examples: socks, shirts, pants, bathing suits, onesies...
Then they hung a clothes line (it was actually string) with all the clothes connected together with tiny clothes pins. You should have seen the new Mom's eyes light up seeing all the new outfits for her little one . I have some previous Martha Stewart magazines for babies. I will go through them and see if I can find any other ideas for you
Congratulations

Congratulations on your new grandchild...I became a Grandma at the age of 37 and now have 6 grandkids...

A friend of mine did a scrapbook for the mom-to-be...get several 6X6 scrapbooks and get each person to write something about the mom-to-be and add pictures or embellishments to the pages...you could even do a 12X12 scrapbook, give each person a page to do and then give it to the mom-to-be,its a great keepsake for her and her baby...

Have a great day

Smiles & Hugs...

oh congratz
it is so much fun being a grandma our first offical grandson came last january

well i know you can find some nice things at the dollar store for prizes
and you could do the baby bottles and put the red and green m&m's in it seeings the baby is due in december i like the srapbook idea you could do something like a book of motherly advice from one mom to another all the thing they have learnd to let her know what it is like you could when you send out invites send a blank index like card for them to write it on
i know one game we played at my baby shower was they took old yarn and the guest had to cut off a piece that they thought would go around my belly alot were to short some way to long but then there was my grandma who used to make me dresses she knew how much yarn to cut and she won the game lol
what ever you do it will be fun and enjoy the new little one when they get here

love those babbies

Congratulations!

At my daughters shower we had everyone write some advice for her, and, each one had their picture taken with her. It was a lot of fun, and I made a scrapbook with these things.

Good luck with the shower. There are a lot of ideas out there.

The Dollar store is a GREAT place for prizes! Or even WalMart's candles. Those are great too.

For center peices you can get some bottles and use them as "vases" for a few flowers. My friend's brother brought her a bottle with a single rose in it when she had her daughter. It really was special.

The diaper cakes make a great decoration too!
