Default Here's a use for old baskets
Old 02-18-2004, 10:53 AM   #1 (permalink)

This is really simple - wish I had thought of it myself!

Turn an old basket into a new lamp! If you don't like the color of the basket, spray paint it whatever color you wish - let it dry. (You may want to stop there - lots of people see how a coat of paint will refresh the look of the basket and keep it "as is"! )

You will now need the hardware for a hanging lamp. Here's another chance to recycle something you've grown tired of - or you can purchase the hardware for just a few dollars. Thread the wire through the bottom of the basket, securing the part that holds the bulb in place with glue or a strip of electrical tape. (You can always paint the electrical tape, if it shows)

Embellish with beads, fringe, etc. - or leave it as is.

WHOOPS! I almost forgot! If you have a couple cylinder shaped baskets you can use them as standing lamps by gluing the rims together and running your hardware through the middle. Add a shade - voila!
