I didn't think it was painful at all. The biggest problem I had was the "newbie" putting the IV in my hand...she tried twice and still couldn't get it right. I was in tears over that. I though the trial period was uncomfortable. You have the wires and a little box that looks like a telephone jack outside of your skin, taped in place, so you are kind of leaning on it or laying on it when you sleep (if you can sleep on your back). The wires are detachable from the remote so they are not a bother at night or when you don't want to use the unit. I couldn't shower for a week (washups only-yuk) since there was no-one home to help me cover everything with plastic (my husband is an over-the-road truck driver so he is gone alot). I don't have any fears or hesitations about going through with this. I will try to keep you posted and I hope you will let me know how you are doing. Good luck and have no fear!!
