In answer to your question neeterthings,
Needle felting is a technique whereby unspun wool is sculpted into shapes by the use of a barbed needle ,as you punch the wool with the needle tiny barbs catch the fibers and join them together. The more you punch the wool the tighter it gets.

There is a needle felted Bear tutorial on my blog ( did i mention it already ) I have been trying to get around to doing a video demo but the only camaraman I can get is my teenage son.
