I have done it using a safety pin. Attach safety pin to a scrap piece of ribbon, put safety pin inside tube. When you get it all the way down carefully open the safety pin and catch some of the material. then pull the ribbon back out this should get you most of the way, then use a dowel rod pencil or chopstick to get it the rest of the way.
