Using scraps to create a unique teacher gift or scrapbook cover!

With the end of school coming, I thought these Journal covers would make the perfect gift for my kid’s wonderful teachers. I also decided to make one for each of my kids as a 2009 Summer Journal.

Scraps for a Skirt

Do you save your scraps from quilting or sewing projects? If you don’t, you might be missing out. I have been saving scraps from the many aprons I’ve sewed over the past two years. I also borrowed a few scraps from my Mom to make these darling Pink Fig Patchwork Skirt from Pink Fig Patterns for my girls. You could pay big bucks for your girls to look this fashionable… but we did it using leftovers. That is some seriously good Make it Do!

Making School Bags

My kids started school last Thursday. I started sewing school bags for them on Wednesday and optimistically thought I might be able to finish their bags that day. But I didn’t. It took me until Sunday to get them finished. And it wasn’t because they were hard… they weren’t. In fact they were really fun and easy to make.

Making Flower Pins

While visiting a local quilting store, one of the women there was making ribbon flowers pins for an upcoming wedding. The pins look a lot like the ones they sell at Anthropologie, but hers are a fraction of the cost. They were so darling I would happily wear one.

Every Kid Needs a Hoodie

Hoodie towels are a tradition in my family that goes back to my childhood. I still remember getting out of the bath and wrapping up in my warm hoodie. Every new baby in our family gets one. I received a few store bought baby towels as gifts and they were so thin that I never used them. I just loved wrapping my babies in the big soft hoodie. We make them out of good quality towels that last for years… And when their hoodie finally wears out, the kids always want another bigger one.

Cupcake for a Cowboy

I never made bibs for my own children and now I am wondering why. I could have made some darn cute ones. Plus they are easy, fast and cheap. I would have definitely made a few out of the vinyl coated fabrics available at some quilt shops. They would be so easy to wipe clean.

CQ Christmas bird ornament

This is a small bird I made for a Christmas ornament swap I'm currently in. I did some crazy quilt stitching and embellishing on it. But of course you could make them to your liking. The pattern I have provided is from the spool blog spot, and will have to be reduced by 70% to make them as small as this one. If this is not possible the original pattern I will work as well only they may be a tad large .
