This is my 1st project. I will be working on a new step by step project with pictures of every step.

1st Step.
Wood preparation.

Use the sand paper start wit the 150 grid and work down to 400 grid until the wiid is very smoth. U se the sand paper to get all the corners, and specialy the face where you will be working.

2nd Step.
The Design.

You can draw your design free handed or you can get any design you want and place it on top ao a carbon paper sheet and transfer the design into the wood.

3rd Step.
Burn the design.

Using the Pyrographic tool, start burning the design. Don't leave the burner in one place for to long or ou will burn the wood realy bad. start with starit lines. don't burn to deep into the wood. After done with the burning use an eraser and erase all the carbon paper lines lefted in the design.

4th Step.
Finishin.

After done with the burning, you can spray the clear varnish on you art work but do it slow. little by little one coat at a time and waith until the first coat is dry to apply the sencond.

Friends are the Best Collectibles

Print pattern file

Trace pattern on WOOD. Cut out . (What I did was cut it all out in one piece, then cut off the shoes. A lot easier.) Drill holes as marked on the pattern.

Sand wood.

Trace all necessary lines onto wood using TRACING PAPER.
BASE
1. AC Flesh for head.

2. CHARCOAL for shoes.

3. ANTIQUE WHITE for dress arms.

4. BLUEBERRY (or any color of your choice) for dress.
DETAILS
1. Dot eyes on with charcoal. When dried place a tinier white dot in the center of the black dot.

2. Mix a tiny amount of ANTIQUE ROSE with water and dab a small amount for the cheeks.

3. Paint mouth on with red paint or use a RED PIGMA MICRON MARKER.

4. Trace the wording and then paint with ANTIQUE WHITE.

5. Place stitching all around the dress with a BLACK PIGMA MICRON MARKER and add two wee eyelashes on the sides of each eye.

6. Spray with ACRYLIC SEALER.
FINISHING TOUCHES
1. Using SPANISH MOSS, add hair.

2. Cut a strip of coordinating FABRIC about 12 inches long X 1 inch wide. I used PINKING SHEARS. It gave it a better look, I think. Make a bow with it. You may have to trim off the pieces. You don't want them really long. Glue to top of head using HOT GLUE GUN and GLUE STICKS.

3. Cut the back off a button using NEEDLE-NOSED PLIERS and then glue it to doll's dress. I don't use hot glue for this because I find it doesn't stick as well. I use TACKY CRAFTER'S GLUE. Let dry.

4. Last ,add the WIRE. Cut one piece about 14 inches long and place through the arm holes. Line up the wire and then with a pair of needle-nosed pliers nip the tip of the wire and twist it around the tip of the pliers. Do this for both arms.

5. Cut two pieces about 3 inches long and do the same for the legs.

NOW SHE'S READY TO GIVE TO A FRIEND! ISN'T SHE ADORABLE!

Rustic Birdhouse

What you do
Paint birdhouse completely with antique white and allow to dry. Following the directions on the crackle medium, apply a coat of crackle medium over the antique white, and allow to dry according to the manufacturer's directions (usually 15-45 minutes, or until tacky but not completely dry). Finish with a coat of barn red on the house, coffee bean on the roof, and black on the base. Again, follow the directions on the crackle medium! Use single brush strokes, DO NOT brush over and over, you will lose the crackle effect. Allow to dry completely. Following the same guidelines, use barn red as the base, then crackle, and antique white as the top coat for the sign. Allow to dry.

Using hot glue gun, glue the twigs around the base of the birdhouse. Break some of the twigs into small pieces and glue randomly inside the doorway and window. Tie scrap of country floral fabric to one of the twigs (see photo).

Thread a piece of raffia through the holes of a large black button, tie into a bow and hot glue the button to the front of the birdhouse.

Using the brown craft pen, write the phrase "Welcome Friends" on the sign, draw on a small heart in the corner or use a rub on transfer. Hot glue the sign to the front of the birdhouse.

Head
Using a saw, cut 1/8-inch off one side of the 1-inch wooden bead. This will be the base of the head (see fig. 1). Take a 2-inch length of jute and twist one end. Place a small amount of hot glue on the twisted end of jute and poke it through the hole on rounded end of the bead. Fray the jute so it looks like hair. Tie a small bow with ribbon and glue it to the top of the head. Set aside.
Arms
Cut 2 pieces of contrasting fabric to measure 5/8-inch by 2-inches. Glue a piece of fabric around each spool. Glue flat ends of the two fabric covered spools together. Glue a 3/8-inch wooden bead to the end of each spool for hands. Set aside.
Legs
Glue two remaining spools together side-by-side. Glue a ½-inch wooden ball on the top of each spool (see fig. 2). Set aside.
Skirt
Cut a 4-inch circle out of print fabric. Sew a gathering stitch around the edge of the circle (see fig. 3). Pull the threads so the edges meet in the center (see fig.4). Tie threads and clip.
Finishing
Glue legs to ungathered side of skirt so the feet meet the edge of the skirt (see fig. 5). Turn piece over so the gathered side of skirt is up and the legs are on the bottom. Glue arms to the center of skirt. Glue the head to the center of the arms. Cut a 3 ½-inch length of lace. Stitch a running stitch along unfinished edge. Wrap lace around the neck of the doll and gather evenly. Tie threads together in back of the doll. Paint face and let dry. Brush a small amount of blush on cheeks.

Tip for group craft:
Dye pieces ahead of time to keep mess and time to a minimum. You can do this by soaking the wooden pieces in traditional fabric dye dissolved in water or try soaking in concentrated kool-aid. You can even use dried out markers. Just remove the pads from inside the barrels and place in a tub of water with wooden pieces.

Valentine Man

Body:
Paint all woodies in the desired colour (you can paint a pattern on the large heart). Using tacky glue, glue large heart upside down to medium heart, right side up. Paint on face.
Arms and Legs:
Cut 4 pieces of wire, 4-6 inches long. Wrap around a pencil or paint brush, leaving about 1/8th of an inch straight on each end. Bend ends into a loop. Hot glue small hearts with the point of the heart into the wire. Then hot glue arms and legs to body in their respective places.

Glue magnet or pin on the back
Variations:
You could also use thin wired ribbon to make the arms and legs. I just prefer the wire.

This project can also be made with fun foam! I found the hearts that were cut out already and they come in 4 different colours and the correct 3 sizes from Creative Hands.
Authors Note:
For the past 3 years I have made these little Valentine's men out of construction paper with my daughter. This year her being a bit older I decided that it would be fun to make something that wouldn't "fade" over time. I came up with this little idea for a Valentine man pin or magnet.

The Garden Gate

What you do
Place 5 craft sticks down vertically on your work surface, side by side about 1/2" apart. Lay 2 more craft sticks down horizontally on top of the 5 sticks to create a picket fence look. Glue in place and allow to dry. When dry, paint completely with white paint.

Paint wood rectangles and the craft stick slivers with white paint. When paint is dry, cover slivers with brown antiquing gel and rub off. Alternatively, you can use light brown paint, but antiquing gel gives a nicer affect. When dry, glue the slivers to the backs of the rectangles to create garden signs.

Create borders on the signs with the checkerboard rub ons. Use the fine tip pen to write "basil", "onion", and "dill" on the signs. Use the craft pen to create dots on the signs randomly around the herb names. Glue the signs to the picket fence as shown in the photo. Use various rub ons along the bottom of the fence to create a line of flowers, rub on ladybugs and a butterfly along the fence and on 2 of the garden signs.

Tie a bow from a piece of raffia and glue to the upper left hand corner of the fence. Dip the bristles of a dry paintbrush into mauve paint. Dab on a paper towel until all excess paint has been removed. Gently touch the edges of the craft sticks (fence posts) for effect.
