I type the Prayer Rock poem in bold letters 10 letters on colorful paper. Attach to card weight paper, laminate then punch hole in corner of poem. Size apx. 2 x 3 inches. I then take a rock (appropriate size of course) and a 4 or 5 inch square of pinked fabric, place my rock in the center of the fabric square, pull up each corner, squeeze to make a hobo pack style wrapping, tie with a colorful ribbon, then tie to the hole in the Prayer Rock card. Great bazaar keepsake or can sell for whatever price you desire.
My name is Virginia. I'm from Illinois. We have a number of craft events during the year in my part of the country. The prayer rock project is something that can easily be made in no time at all and constructed while watching TV.
Glue 2 prong-type clothespins together. Glue third clothes pin facing opposite direction. Add green felt antlers and holly leaves, 3 red beads to resemble berries on holly leaves, movable eyes, red felt nose and white tail.
Just came across this fun craft idea while visiting my grandsons preschool. Maybe it's nothing new but I've never seen it. It was a gum ball machine made out of a terracotta pot. I used a 6" one and the bottom part that goes to it. You tip the pot upside down, glue a glass rose bowl to it, fill the rose bowl with whatever you like. I used Easter candy. Jelly beans, skittles, M&M"s etc. Take the bottom of your pot to use as the top of the gum ball machine. I glued a knob on the top for a handle. Some I painted pastel colors, some I decoupaged pretty pastel tissue paper on them, endless things you can do. I can't stop making them for Easter! All my loved ones get one (the adults) Beings there glass I thought it might be to dangerous for giving to kids, so the moms can put them on the kitchen counter or wherever. And no dime or penny is required to get one , you just lift the top off and reach in. ENJOY! Scarlet
You will need...
1 pair of socks (the kind that fold over at the ankle)
Cotton crochet thread
Beads (any style and color.. be creative!)
Tapestry needle
Crochet hook that will fit through hole of beads (try size 11 or 12)
Sc to edge of sock,*ch 3, insert hook through bead, yo and draw thread through bead, ch 3, sc to sock. Ch 2, insert hook through bead, yo and draw thread through bead, ch 2, sc to sock, repeat from * around sock. Fasten off.
Use your beginning and ending thread and tie a square knot. With tapestry needle, weave in ends and take a few stitches to insure that beads will not unravel.
Use 1" gumballs in 7 different colors. Cut a strip of shrink wrap about 4 inches wide. Using pony beads, twist one end of shrink wrap and slide a pony bead to within 1" of the opposite end. Then open the shrink wrap and insert a gumball, making sure the shrink wrap completely covers the gumball. Add another bead, pushing it tight against the gumball. Continue adding gumballs and beads, ending with a bead. Use a blow dryer to shrink the plastic. Add a tag that says:
When you chew: Pray for:
red Your father
Blue Your mother
Put in the colors for others that you want to pray for until you have the same number of people as you have gumballs. Don't forget to pray for your pastor.
Get a pop up laundry hamper in the color of green can buy at walmarts. Cut arm holes on the side and one for the head on the bottom to make sure hamper fits body.
Take white sheet or material and draw th 7up symbol from a can (enlarge to fit across hamper) for both sides. Sew symbol on hamper
On bottom of hamper where head is take silver duct tape and tape whole area and alittle on the sides and also the edge of the opening that goes over the body.
For the pop tab take a wire coat hanger and shape to fit head and tape with duct tape.
Easy costume for people that are busy. Down the custome in one night.
I get wallpaper books from paint stores, when new ones
come in, they throw the old ones out. I use the wall paper
pages to make fronts on cards and envelopes for the
cards. You can carefully take apart a store bought
envelope and use it as a pattern to make the envelopes.
You can use the wallpaper pages as background pages
for cards or you can cut out certain patterns and glue on
to card stock.
Bend a wire coat hanger into a circle. Tie the end of a package of thin round elastic to the bottom of the hook. Starting at the top attach the red and white wrapped candy to the circle with the elastic, stretching it as you wrap to secure each piece of candy to the wreath. When the circle is full, tie the end of the elastic to the starting point. Finish with a red or green velvet bow tied to the hook.
This project is really fun for a rainy day. Go out to Wal-Mart or something and get some clear plates then have your kids go thru old and new magazines to find little clips they like. Then take them to a table and turn the plates over. Take your glue and glue the pictures to the back of the plate. Have Fun.

Create goody bags for all of the children. Each family donates fruit, candy, and small trinkets to put into the bags. Each paper bag is decorated with paints, crayons, glitter and other decorative articles. Our children have enjoyed these bags so much that they suggested preparing bags for the youth in their church groups. This Christmas we plan on taking it a step further and include nursing homes and others within the community.
Place dried out clay in a zip-lock bag with 1-2 tablespoons of water in it [depending on how much clay you have in the bag--use less if it's just a small amount]. Place in the freezer overnight. Take out and once it's thawed, it should be ready to use. Good luck!
I use autumn leaves as place cards on my Thanksgiving table. Dip the autumn leaves in wax to preserve them.
On a sticky label cut with decorative edged scissors or colored paper hot glued to leaves, I print the names (You can use colored pens or crayons) and place the leaves at each setting.
To tie everything together I make a center piece with autumn leaves (dipped in wax) piled up in a pumpkin (cut in half and cleaned out)or basket or cornicopa.
If your leaves aren't as colorful as you would like, I use a little craft paint on them before I dip them in wax.Or use left over colored candles dipping the leaf in one color then the other end in another. Blend before the wax dries.Any greenery from your yard works as a filler around the leaves especially evergreens or raffia You can scatter other leaves, dried pods or acorns and other nuts around the table.
Pie pans can be used to make attractive potpourri holders. Remove the outer rim of pie pan and cut out desired design or leave as a round design. Fill pan with potpourri and glue to hold potpourri in place. Add potpourri oil if desired. Take a piece of bridal veil and cover entire design, and glue well to back of pan. Once the glue dries, add a decorative ribbon to back of pan for hanging. Decorative laces and ribbons can be used to accent design. From: MaryBranch, NC.
Clean a 2 liter pop bottle. Remove label and paint white. Cover a Styrofoam ball in white material and glue to top of pop bottle. Add eyes, nose, and mouth. Make hat out of felt and glue in place. Add little crocheted scarf around neck of bottle.

Chose a rock for this activity. The size will depend on your need to remember to pray. Place some fabric around it and tie the fabric bunched together at the top with a ribbon. Type out this poem and place in two columns, and fold in half. You can put a paper punch hole through the top to tie this little "book" (pamphlet) to the ribbon that holds the fabric in place. On the cover I have two hands praying and it says Prayer Rock.
I'm your little prayer rock and this is what I'll do. Just put mo on your pillow till the day is through.
Then turn back the covers and climb into bed; and WHACK your little prayer rock will hit you on the head!
Then you will remember as the day is through; to kneel and say your prayers as you wanted to.
Then when you are finished just drop me on the floor. I'll stay there through the nighttime to give you help one more.
When you get up next morning CLUNK, i stub your toe; so you will remember morning prayers before you go.
Put me back upon your pillow when you bed is made, and your clever little prayer rock will continue to your aid.
Because your heavenly Father cares and loves you so; He wants you to remember to talk to Him, you know.

Glue small twisted pretzels together in a circle to form a wreath. Glue another circle on top and paint with one coat of shellac to harden. Let dry overnight. Weave ribbon or lace through openings and tie into a bow.
On a large piece of plastic wrap, place white chocolate mix, and colored marshmallows, a plastic spoon dipped in melted white chocolate tinted with with a fall color (orange, golden yellow, etc.,) and gather corners. Tie with a bright bow. Place in a harvest color cup.
Soak white silk scarves in warm water with a few splashes of white vinegar for 30 minutes.
Add 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup of vinegar and three packets of Kool-Aid (Fig.2,3) to a bowl and mix well.*
Add a scarf to the bowl and stir around. (Fig.4,5)
Cover with plastic wrap and place in the microwave for 2 minutes.
Remove plastic wrap, stir, let sit for 2 minutes. Repeat the microwave and sitting process about 3 times. At the end, almost all of the dye will be absorbed leaving behind a milky white mixture. (Fig.6)
Allow the silks to hang dry.
Wash the silks in plain water in your machine. I washed the red one alone, the pink with the purple, the yellow with the orange. I did not have any problem with bleeding except for the red so I am glad I washed that one solo!
Dry the silks on low and iron if you want. Since my toddler will be playing with these, I didn’t feel it necessary to iron them! (Fig.7)
Use small nail to make hole about the size of a quarter in one end of egg, then drain egg and rinse out shell.Draw or paint funny faces on the shells and put them in an egg carton.Use permanent markers as they won't bleed threw.Use a spoon to fill with soil then plant with grass seed(follow directions). Moisten the soil, cover with plastic wrap and put in sunny window until the seed sprout. When the hair is thick, remove plastic. Style the hair and water everyday!
1. Using pressed flowers, petal, and leaves arrange a design on the front side of a clear glass plate. Remove design (still arranged) onto another plate.
2. Spray a good floral/photo adhesive onto the back of the glass plate and rearrange the floral design on the back of the plate (making sure the front of the flowers are face down so that when the plate is right side up they will show through correctly)
3. Once the design is in place, respray the back of the plate w/ the glue and gently lay a sheet of thin white tissue paper over the back of the plate - gently smoothing out as many of the wrinkles as possible. Allow the tissue paper to dry completely, and with a craft knife (razor or really sharp scissors work well also) cut along the edge of the plate to remove the excess tissue paper.
4. Finally spray several layers of an acrylic sealer (glossy or matte) to harden the tissue paper and make the plate water resistant.
**these plates are mainly decorative...if you do use them for food wash them by had GENTLY to keep the tissue and the flowers in good form
