After raising my sons basically by myself, I remarried 7 years ago. We were all so excited about our first Christmas, so we made a celebration out of getting the tree and decorating it. Before we put it in the stand, we cut off an inch or so of the trunk and wrote the date and "Our first Christmas". We have done that every year. You can paint, decorate and drill a hole in the top of them for hanging.
