Materials
1 box of Parafin Wax
glitter, any color
1 candle wick, as long as the box of Wax
hand turned egg beater
iron, don't add water to iron
ironing board
foil to cover about half of the ironing board
empty coffee can
pot big enough to hold coffee can and some water
old butter knife
Heat some water in pot with a plank of wax in the coffee can and can in the pot
While wax is melting
Cover ironing board and heat iron
Run iron quickly over one plank of wax
Quickly place another plank of wax on top of first plank, lining them together
Quickly run iron over second plank and
Quickly center wick on second plank
Iron the third plank and line it up on the second plank
Iron the fourth plank and line it up on the third plank
The planks will not totally meet, especially where the wick is. The icing will cover any spaces.
When the wax is melted, carefully remove the can from the pot, put can on a protected surface.
Beat the wax using the hand turned beater until it turns white and starts to harden (wax can be reheated if it gets to hard).
Using the knife slather the beaten wax (icing) on the sides of the candle, dont make it smooth. When lit the light will show through the less covered places.
When a side is 'iced' you can sprinkle on some glitter. Glitter should be put on while candle is still soft.
Ice all 4 sides and add the glitter
Put icing on the top of the candle and add the glitter.
Don't put icing on the bottom of the candle.
I place my candle in the middle of a piece of green styrofoam.
I like to use real cedar pieces and stick them into the styrofoam and cover the styrofoam.
You can add a small string of lights and/or small Christmas balls with the tops turned into the styrofoam.
My twin sister and I made these candles in the late 1950s when we were in high school. I still made them now and then.
