Crocheted Rag Rug

Materials:
- 44" wide cotton fabric, 20 yards various colors
- Size Q crochet hook
Preparation:
Cut fabric into 2" wide strips; wind into balls.
Instructions:
Chain 18, turn and single-crochet (sc) in 3rd chain from hook.
Row 1: Sc in each st to end of row (14 sc); 3 sc in beg chain (forming first end), turn. Sc in next 14 stitches; 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st; 3 sc in next st forming next end.
Row 2: Sc in next 13 sc, 3 sc in next sc; 1 sc in next sc; 3 sc in next sc; sc in next 15 sc.
Row 3: 3 sc in next sc; sc in each of next 3 sc; 3 sc in next sc; sc in next 17 sc; 3 sc in next sc; sc in next 5 sc; 3 sc in next sc; sc in next 17 sc.
Rows 4-15: Continue as est, working 3 sc in the middle stitch of each set of 3 sc. Complete Row 15. Cut strip 8 in from hook; sl st in top of last set of 3 ?weave end through sts.
Tips:
Recycle old clothes or sheets by tearing them into strips to make "yarn". Cut fabric into 2-inch-wide strips and wind into balls. Don't knot strips together, just overlap ends...you don't want knots in your yarn
This technique also works well for pot holders, place mats and chair pads. Make some to match your rug!
